100 Meter Dash
Jefferson's Dante Price got away from the field in the last 40 meters to win convincingly by 0.12. Cabell Midland's Jacob Reynolds picked up 2nd place. One of my predicted placers False Started in the finals.

Jefferson's Dante Price held off Elkins' Cam Viney for the 0.04 win, 22.11 to 22.15. Cabell Midland's Jacob Reynolds also run under 22.50 in taking 3rd.

400 Meter Dash
Elkins' Cam Viney was able to overtake Martinsburg's Nick Lopez in the last 20 meters to take the win, 49.19 to 49.41. Cabell Midland's Jacob Reynolds was also under 50.50.

800 Meter Run
Cabell Midland's Jacob Burcham and Jefferson's Brandon Doughty took the first lap in 57 seconds with the Cabell Midland duo of Matt Edmunds and Ryan Smith trailing close behind. The intensity ratcheted up almost immediately at the line. Burcham and Doughty immediately began to generate a gap on the remaining field Doughty made a run on Burcham on the backstretch, but Burcham was able to hold him off to the turn. Doughty dropped back to the inside in the turn and fell back by a couple meters. Doughty made one more run in the final stretch, but Burcham was able to hold him off. Doughty's leap across the finish line came up 0.02 short. Burcham set a new State Meet Record with his 1:54.01. That time stands as the 2nd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Doughty's 1:54.03 ties him for the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Peformance and the 3rd Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Smith and Edmunds also ran under 2:00 to claim 3rd and 4th, respectively.

1600 Meter Run
This was another of the highlight events of the weekend. Jefferson's Brandon Doughty took the first lap in 62, with Cabell Midland's Jacob Burcham, Fairmont Senior's Dayton Mcvicker, and Morgantown's Cody Pelliccioni trailing close behind in 63. At the end of the 2nd lap, Burcham had moved to the front with Doughty right on his heels, with both crossing in 2:07. Pelliccioni was right behind in 2:08. Winfield's Joe Kirtner made the pass on McVicker right at the end of the lap. On lap three, Burcham came through in 3:08, putting about a second on Doughty. Pelliccioni remained in 3rd, but Kirtner had reeled him in. The final lap saw Burcham put it away with a 60 second close to set a new State Meet Record in 4:08.80. That stands as the Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Doughty easily held on for 2nd with a 63 second closer. His 4:12.90 stands as the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 3rd Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Kirtner also ran under 4:20 to take 3rd. Jefferson's Eric Graf and Cabell Midland's David Jobe ran 4:22 for 4th and 5th, respectively. McVicker held on for 6th. The top 8 all ran under 4:30 with Musselman's Cody McDonald and Pelliccioni also meeting the mark.

3200 Meter Run
The race started very cautiously with the leaders only coming through in 1:10, with Jefferson's Brandon Doughty, Cabell Midland's Jacob Burcham, and Fairmont Senior's Dayton McVicker at the front. The entire field followed closely. On lap 2, the front three remained in line coming through in 2:22-2:23. Fairmont Senior's Todd Edgell and Hurricane's Caleb Bowen were running in 4th and 5th, respectively, with most of the field still right on their heels. Lap three saw the three frontrunners remain in place, coming through in 3:35-3:36. Preston's Peter Schwarzenberg had moved into 4th with University's Jordan Brown-Stobbe moving into 5th. 8 remained in the pack fighting for fourth. On lap 4, The three leaders remained in place,coming through in 4:48. The pack was actually beginning to close on the leaders as the bulk of the pack hit the line at 4:53. Lap five saw the pace slow even more as the leaders ran only a 77 lap. The threesome crossed the line in the same order they'd been in for the entire race with Doughty in the front, Burcham in 2nd, and McVicker in 3rd. The pack had cut the gap to 2 seconds with Schwarzenberg, Jefferson's Eric Graf, Brown-Stobbe, Cabell Midland's Tyler Salmons and Jefferson's Sam Munnis sitting in contention. Finally, on lap six, things picked up. McVicker was the first to move, taking the lead just before coming out of the turn. Burcham and Doughty responded immediately and vigorously. Burcham and Doughty ended up taking lap 6 in 65 seconds with McVicker turning a 67. The pack fighting for 4th remained in tact, but instead of 2 seconds behind the leaders, they were now 11 seconds behind 3rd. Lap 7 saw Burcham and Doughty bring it up another notch as Burcham toured the lap in 62 seconds and Doughty in 63. McVicker completely lost contact at this point was was 11 seconds behind by the end of the lap. Graf and Brown-Stobbe had gotten away from Schwarzenberg, Munnis, and Salmons by a couple seconds. On the final lap, Burcham really powered away. He closed with a scintillating 59 to score a 9:11.29 State Meet Record. He had closed the last three laps in 3:06. His time stands as the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Performance. Doughty easily held on for 2nd in 9:20.43. McVicker held onto 3rd in 9:37.17. Graf and Brown-Stobbe turned 63 second final laps racing for position, with Graf getting a 9:38.58 and Brown-Stobbe getting a 9:38.71. Schwarzenberg also ran under 9:45 in taking 6th. The top 10 all went under 10:00.

110 Meter High Hurdles
South Charleston's Josh Coats dominated the field in winning by over 0.5 seconds with his 14.33. His time stands as the 6th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 6th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Elkins' Cam Viney was the only other one to just under 15 seconds. Viney also ran a 14.41 in the trials which is good enough to be Tied for 10th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Elkins' Cam Viney pulled away down the stretch to win by 0.72. His 38.31 was the only run under 39 seconds. Winfield's Cam Jividen just missed the mark with his 39.03. Winfield's Luke Martin and Jefferson's Ashton Hyler also came through under 40 seconds.

4x100 Meter Relay
Woodrow Wilson ran an outstanding 42.84. The unit of Ramon Edwards, Nikko Wesley, Jacob Meadows, and Zach Tilley grabbed the 6th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 6th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Jefferson was close behind in 43.14. Wheeling Park and George Washington also ran under 44.

4x200 Meter Relay
Woodrow Wilson held off Jefferson in this relay as well. Woodrow Wilson and Jefferson were the only teams to go under 1:31. Musselman and South Charleston were the only other teams to go under 1:32.

4x400 Meter Relay
Jefferson used a 50.3 3rd leg from Brandon Doughty and a 48.8 anchor leg from Denzel Washington to speed to a 3:23.00 time. That gives the unit of Ashton Hyler, Dante Price, Brandon Doughty, and Denzel Washington the 2nd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Cabell Midland ran a strong 3:25.29 to take 2nd. Parkersburg and Wheeling Park ran under 3:30 as well. One of my predicted placers False Started.

4x800 Meter Relay
The quest for the Meet Record didn't occur as Cabell Midland didn't run Jacob Burcham and Jefferson didn't run Brandon Doughty. Cabell Midland still had a shot to go under 8:00 though. Midland received a 1:58.6 lead leg from David Jobe and never relinquished that lead. They also received a 1:58 closing leg from Ryan Smith to seal the win, but they couldn't quite get under 8:00 with their 8:02.10. Jefferson used a 1:59 anchor leg from Denzel Washington to close out 2nd place in 8:06. Washington held off Winfield for 3rd by just over half a second. Martinsburg also ran under 8:15, and Parkersburg ran under 8:20.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Winfield sped their way to a 56.02 to win by 0.7 seconds. That time gives the unit of Zach Shreve, Alex Murray, Luke Martin, and Cam Jividen the 10th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 10th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Only Parkersburg South was able to join them under 57 seconds. Jefferson ran under 58 in taking 3rd.

High Jump
Wheeling Park's Errin Baynes repeated as champion with a leap of 6'4. He was the only one to clear that height. Only teammate Kody Geisel and Parkersburg South's Garrett Lynch cleared 6'2. Only 7 competitors cleared the opening height of 6'0.

Pole Vault
A trio of vaulters cleared 13'6 with Washington's Roland Rush taking the win on tie-breakers. Parkersburg South's Logan Cox and Preston's Nash Thomas got 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Only Hurricane's Alex Howden joined them over 13'0.

Long Jump
Wheeling Parks' Errin Baynes and Princeton's Purcell Lash both lept 21'9 with Baynes getting the win on 2nd best jump. George Washington's Lance Hunter also jumped over 21'0. 8 competitors went past 20'0.

Shot Put
Four throwers surpassed 50'0 with Hurricane's A.J. White bettering the field by nearly 3' with his 54'9.25 toss. Buckhannon-Upshur's Troy Wingler snagged 2nd by less than 3 inches over Logan's David Toney, 51'11.75 to 51'9. Lewis' Hunter McWhorter joined them over 50'0 with his 50'7 toss.

Discus
Hurricane's A.J. White bettered the field by over 13'0 with is 161'8 toss. Buckhannon-Upshur's Troy Wingler and Lewis' Hunter McWhorter were the only other throwers to top 145'0.
